Here are some famous members of the Freemason Brotherhood. These people made no secret of their involvement in the noble Brotherhood.

Henry Ford

The famous industrialist and founder of Ford Motors, Henry Ford was a Free mason. Henry Ford revolutionized mass production with the production line process used for manufacturing the Model T Ford motors. Ford increased workers’ wages and improved their working conditions drastically. He proved his service to mankind by being one of the early pioneers of Welfare Capitalism. He was a member of the Zion Lodge.

Davy Crockett

Davy Crockett was a politician and folk hero who fought in the Battle of Alamo where he died. When Crockett was serving in congress in Washington, he became a mason. When he left Washington for Texas, he handed over his masonic apron to the Weakly Lodge in Tennessee. Today, his masonic apron is still there.  

King George VI

King George VI ascended to the British throne after the abdication of Edward, his brother. King George VI credits freemasonry with helping him to overcome his stutter and gain confidence. He had a speech therapist called Lionel Logue who was a Masonic Master that worked with the Royal Masonic School. King George had to give up his Masonic office when he ascended to the throne. He was reluctant to do that, and a new position was created for him. The position was called ‘Past Grand Master.’ King George VI wrote that Freemasonry had been one of the strongest influences on his life.

Nat King Cole

Famous black musician Nat King Cole was a member of the Thomas Waller Lodge No. 49 in Los Angeles. He became a Freemason in 1938 along with his drummer. The Thomas Waller Lodge was named after a jazz musician called Fats Waller who died around the time when Nat King Cole joined the Lodge. Nat King Cole stuck by the masonic principles throughout his life.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

W.A Mozart, the famous classical composer was a Freemason. Mozart joined the Zur Wohltätigkeit Lodge at Vienna in 1784, 7 years before he died. He joined as an Apprentice and became a Master in 1785. That year the Zur Wohltätigkeit Lodge was merged with the Zur Neugekrönten Hoffnung Lodge. Some of Mozart songs that were composed after he joined had Masonic influences. They include The Magic Flute and Kleine Freimaurer-Kantate or A Little Freemason-Cantata. He even added a special dotted figure to the music sheet to represent the knocking on the door during an initiation ceremony.

Buzz Aldrin

Famous astronaut, Buzz Aldrin who was the second man to step on the moon was a Freemason. He was the second person to step on the moon after Neil Armstrong. He was a devoted mason who took a Masonic flag with him on the Apollo 11 spacecraft. He had special permissions from the Freemasons to claim a part of the moon for the Freemasons. He claimed ‘Masonic Territorial Jurisdiction for The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons’ on the moon. He was the first man to take communion on the moon as he was a Presbyterian with a home communion kit.

Winston Churchill

Former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill was a Freemason. He joined the Studholme Lodge where he became a Master Mason. When Churchill became a First Lord of the Admiralty, Churchill resigned as a Freemason. But he was still in contact with his Freemason Brothers and the Churchill Lodge was named after him.

John Wayne

Famous actor and politician, John Wayne was a Freemason just like his father. He became a Freemason in July 1970, joining the McDaniel Lodge 56 like his father. He was a powerful man who supported his friend Ronald Reagan in his bid to become the Governor of California.

George Washington

Famous US president and one of the founding fathers of the United States, George Washington was a famous Freemason. He was initiated in 1752. He was offered the position of a Grand Master in 1777, but he declined it because he had never been the Master of a lodge. But the year before Washington became the President of America, he accepted another offer to become the Master of the Alexandrai Lodge in Washington. That Lodge is now the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. It is not known whether George Washington wore a Masonic Ring or not.
